Evelyn Clarke Memorial Shield
Evelyn Clarke was born Evelyn Marnoch and came from a family who were well known and loved. Her father played in the local football team and she and her mother and sisters were huge supporters of everything that happened in the villages.
It is in connection with the Maggie Fair that Evelyn is best known. Her abilities in cajoling and persuading hapless residents, new and old, to volunteer was legendary. She was a constant cheerleader for anything that happened in the villages and she and Alan were hosts for many New Year gatherings and tea parties to raise funds for Parkinsons research.
She was finding life difficult towards the end, but always asked how the organisation of Maggie Fair was going and took a huge interest in all that was happening in other areas of the villages.
She will be so missed as a valued member of our community.
In her honour, it has been decided to award a shield to commemorate all her contributions to village life. The shield will be awarded by the judge of the competitions to the person, in their opinion, who has produced the best overall item in the competitions tent.
We are sure that it will be agreed that this is a fitting way to keep her memory alive.

Grand Raffle Star Prize – Thorabella Buffalo Farm
We are very pleased this year to have some very generous donations for our grand raffle.
Oliver Lake and family are locals to Garmouth and have always been keen to help out in the community.
When Oliver and his wife, Nikki moved to Dallas they were keen to be self sufficient and to surround themselves with animals, own a farm and make it a success using some unconventional methods. Thorabella farm has grown from strength to strength.
They invested in a water buffalo herd to feed the demand for healthy and tasty meat as well as all the usual farm animals. When they decided to provide holiday accommodation
Oliver built the rustic cabins himself using straw bales, lime mortar and creative joinery to make small comfortable homes for nature lovers.
We are excited that Oliver and Nikki have donated a voucher worth £250 to stay in one of the cabins for two weekend nights. The cabin sleeps 4 so would be great for a family weekend away.
Here is an extract from their website. Visit the site for more information Thorabella Farm, Dallas. Tel 07584 353113
“ Thorabella Farm Straw Bale Cabins are set on a working farm surrounded by stunning views in all directions. Wake up in the morning to the sight of animals including, chickens, ducks, sheep, pigs, goats, wallabies and even Water Buffalo.
There is a kid’s play park and games room for entertainment so the adults can enjoy a peaceful stay while the kids are fully entertained or join in all the fun. Enjoy the evening sunsets and gaze at the stars in a tranquil setting.
Our Honesty Shack sells all produce from the farm including a variety of meat, seasonal veg, honey from our bees, Jersey cow milk and ice cream. We run organised farm tours and have just opened a barn walk to allow visitors to get up close to, touch and cuddle some of the farm animals”..
Oliver and Nikki are excited about even more planned extensions to their business. They have purchased a catering unit to sell hot food to their visitors to the farm – real farm to fork.
They will soon be opening an additional honesty shack. Situated on the outskirts of Garmouth, on the Lhanbryde road. Great news for the Villages!
Please visit and give support to these hardworking and creative entrepreneurs.
